Keep up the pressure on mass surveillance in Culver City

Together, you've sent more than a thousand letters to City Council members and the City Manager demanding they take down the Flock cameras. Culver City rarely sees an outpouring like this on anything.

We need to keep it up, because things are moving fast.

ICE is still all over the Westside. Last week, masked agents kidnapped a man right off Culver Boulevard, near the bike path, in front of his own son. This isn't hypothetical. It's happening right where these cameras are watching us 24/7.

And now there's a new wrinkle: a member of Congress just announced a bill that would strip federal funding from any city that uses Flock cameras. Culver City does not want to lose federal funding because we’re still using a surveillance system that is already putting our community at immediate risk from ICE.

City Council is taking this up in the coming weeks. We don't have a firm date yet, but we will soon — and when we do, we need every one of you at that council meeting, in person, by Zoom, or by email.

For now: thank you. Keep sharing the letter. Keep talking to your neighbors. We are closer than we've ever been to getting these cameras down, and Council needs to feel that the pressure doesn't let up between now and the meeting.
