Tri-School Parking Lot Bike and Pedestrian lanes move forward at CCUSD

On Tuesday, Jan 27, the CCUSD Board of Trustees in 5-0 vote advanced a redesign of the parking lot between Farragut Elementary and CCMS/CCHS to improve safety for the increasing number of students who enter the campus from the Pedestrian Bridge/Ocean Ave and the Ballona Creek Bike Lane. The new design, which is scheduled to break ground over the summer of 2026, will include two sets of protected lanes, one for pedestrians and one for cyclists beginning at the La Ballona Creek and ending at the Elenda Ave.

Funded by the taxpayer approved Measure E Bond, the project was supported by teachers and staff, parents and students, and a wide variety of CCUSD stakeholders. In addition to the protected lanes, access to the lot will be restricted to teachers and staff to guarantee they have dedicated parking and to reduce the overall number of vehicles scrambling to find spaces onsite.

These improvements are an important step forward for continuous bike lanes connecting Culver City to its schools including La Ballona Elementary. It also creates a much needed north-south commuter route connecting everyone south of the La Ballona Creek to Downtown Culver City and much of the Westside.
